Kokomo freshman Brandon Hanson was the medalist on Thursday in his first varsity match. Hansen recorded a score of three-over par 39 and was the only varsity golfer on either squad to not record a score over bogey during his round. Freshman Ty Lauderbaugh was next for the Wildkats with a score of 43 in what was also his first varsity match. Rounding out the scoring for Kokomo was a much-needed 49 from senior Clayton Brown and a score of 50 from senior Connor Scheiman.

This is a good starting point but definitely leaves some room for improvement, especially in our overall team score. I know this squad will continue to work as the season progresses.

The JV Wildkats also got things underway on Thursday and sophomore Jon Callane was the medalist for Kokomo with a score of 56. Kokomo's JV team score was 234 and Eastern's score was
incomplete. Also providing scores for the JV squad were Caiden Kirby, Trevor Stucker, and Travarion Corbin.

Apr. 13 Warsaw Invite (T) The varsity squad competed in the Don Dicken Invitational in Warsaw at Rozella Ford Golf Club. In a field of that featured three teams in the latest Indiana High School Golf Coaches Top 20 poll, the Wildkats ended up finishing in 14th place with a score of 374.

The tournament was won by Hamilton County power Westfield. The Shamrocks put together four solid scores in the 70's to finish with a team score of 305. The tournament was played from the back set of tees at Rozella Ford which measured 6,577 yards and
presented a challenge for all teams that competed on Saturday. Andrew Karr of Valparaiso was the medalist with a score of one-under par 69.

All five Wildkats varsity golfers were playing the course for the first time and this unfamiliarity led to some higher scores. Freshman Brandon Hansen led Kokomo on Saturday with a score of 89. Also providing scores for the Wildkats total were freshman Ty Lauderbaugh with a 94, senior Connor Scheiman with a 95, and senior Tyler Janssen with a 96.

Apr. 15 Frankfort (H) 4:00 pm (W) 165-191
Freshman Brandon Hansen was medalist for a second straight dual match with a one-over par score of 36. Freshman Ty Lauderbaugh was next with a 42 and seniors Connor Scheiman and Tyler Jansen
completed the Wildkats scoring with scores of 43 and 44.

The team was very happy with the win on Monday but still feels like they left some shots out there. This win will help the team with confidence and will make them work that much harder to improve.

The varsity Wildkats are now 2-0 on the season in dual-match play.

Apr. 17 Logansport (H) 4:30 pm (L) 153- 166
Leading the Wildkats varsity golfers was freshman Ty Lauderbaugh, who shot a season best total of 38. Senior Tyler Janssen and freshman Brandon Hanson each had 41, and senior Connor Scheiman completed the Kokomo scoring with a 46.

Logansport always defends their home course well, and the Wildkats made a few too many errors around and on the greens which ultimately prevented the match from being closer.

Apr. 20 Logansport Invite (T) 8:00 am Postponed - Make-up TBD
Apr. 22 Noblesville (T) 4:00 pm (L) 152-173
Once again, all of the Kokomo varsity golfers were playing Fox Prairie for the first time. This caused some issues early on as there is a creek that runs across the course on the first three holes and that creek cost the Wildkats a number of dropped shots. As a team our play was consistent with what we have shot at away courses so far this year.

Freshman Brandon Hansen, celebrating his birthday on Monday, was best for the Wildkats with a two-over par 38. Senior Tyler Janssen continued to show well and came in next low with a 41. Freshman Ty Lauderbaugh added a 45, and senior Clayton Brown rounded out the Kokomo scoring with a 49.

Apr. 25 Peru (H) 4:30 pm Weather cancellation; make-up TBD
Apr. 29 Lafayette Jeff (H) 4:30 pm (W) 165-181
Freshman Brandon Hansen came in as medalist by shooting an impressive one-over par score of 36 to lead the Wildkats to a 165-181 victory.

Freshman Ty Lauderbaugh and senior Tyler Janssen added scores of 42 and senior Connor Scheiman shook off a slow start and completed the Kokomo scoring with a 45.

Kokomo, now 3-2 in varsity dual matches, posted their third sub-170 score and continues to work on improving as the season progresses. The conditions on Monday were not ideal but the Wildkats stayed focused to secure the win.

May 1 Western (T) 4:00 pm (L) 157-164
The Wildkats varsity score represented a season best, but the Panthers Kyle Sanders made sure Western would not lose the match. Sanders shot a stellar three-under par score of 33 and the Panthers added three more scores of 42 or less to support Sanders outstanding round.

Kokomo freshman Ty Lauderbaugh enjoyed his best nine-hole round of the season to this point by carding a one-over par score of 37. Freshman Brandon Hansen and senior Tyler Janssen were next with scores of 42 and senior Connor Scheiman had a 43.

Chippendale can be tough at times and with the extremely wet conditions, the Panthers utilized what could be described as a distinct home-course advantage. Every match provides the Kokomo golfers with more experience and that will help as the season nears its midpoint.

May 2 Tipton (H) 4:00 pm Weather cancellation. Make-up date is May 15th.
May 4 Howard/Tipton County @ TBA 11:00 am The Kokomo Country Club played host to the Tipton/Howard County Golf Tournament for the first time on Saturday and the Tipton Blue Devils shot a season-best 18-hole score of 305 to win the event.

After a one-hour delay for rain, Tipton overcame very wet course conditions to place three players at scores of 80 or less. The Blue Devils' Noah Wolfe was the overall medalist with an impressive score of one-under- par 69, and teammate Griffin Hare was just two shots back at 71 to finish second.

Western came home in second place with a score of 321, and Kokomo was third with a total of 334.

This was just the Wildkats second 18-hole event of the year and on Saturday Kokomo shot 40 strokes better than the 374 total recorded at Warsaw on April 13.

Leading the Kokomo golfers on Saturday was freshman Brandon Hansen. Hansen shot a oneover
par score of 36 on the front nine and followed that with a three-over 38 on the back nine to finish with a 74. Hansen's overall score was good for third medalist honors.

Senior Connor Scheiman also earned a medal by finishing in seventh place with a score of 82.  Freshman Ty Lauderbaugh was next with an 88, and senior Tyler Janssen completed the Kokomo scorecard with a 90.

Team scores from Saturday:
Tipton - 305
Western - 321
Kokomo - 334
Eastern - 362
Northwestern - 398
Taylor - 465

May 6 Marion (T) 5:30 pm (W) 169-240
Every other year the Kokomo boys golf team travels to North Central Conference foe Marion to challenge the tough and tricky Meshingomesia Country Club.

On Monday afternoon the Wildkats varsity squad put together a solid effort in defeating the host Giants by a score of 169-240.

Freshman Ty Lauderbaugh continued his exceptional play on visiting courses and came home as medalist with a two-over par score of 38. This was the first time Lauderbaugh had ever played Meshingomesia and that made his score that much more impressive.

Freshman Brandon Hansen and senior Tyler Janssen were next for the Wildkats with scores of 42 and senior Connor Scheiman added a 47.

May 8 Northwestern (H) 4:00 pm (W) 169-209
The Wildkats remained undefeated on their home course this season and ran their dual match record to 5-3 with the win.

In a somewhat unique format, the Wildkats and Tigers each fielded seven golfers on Wednesday with the top four scores counting toward team totals.

Kokomo freshman Brandon Hansen was the medalist in the match with a two-over par score of 37 on the Country Club's front nine. Hansen has now been the medalist in all three of Kokomo's home matches this season.

Freshman Ty Lauderbaugh and sophomore Jon Callane were next for the Wildkats with scores of 42. Callane, playing out of the number seven position, shot a season-best score on Wednesday and continues to improve as the season progresses. Also recording a season best score was senior Caiden Kirby, and his solid 48 provided Kokomo's final countable score.

May 9 North Central (H) 4:30 pm (L) 164-165
The Kokomo boys varsity golf team lost their first home match of the season on Wednesday at the Kokomo Country Club as visiting North Central nipped the Wildkats by a single stroke, 164-165.

The loss to the Panthers overshadowed another outstanding performance by Kokomo freshman Brandon Hansen, who was the medalist on Thursday with a two-under par score of 33 on the back nine
at Country Club. Hansen's round included four birdies, three pars, and two bogeys.

The match was not decided until the final two golfers from each team came in and the final addition left the Wildkats one shot short of going to a tiebreaker.

Freshman Ty Lauderbaugh was second low for Kokomo on Thursday with a 42, and senior Connor Scheiman was next with a 44. Senior Tyler Janssen rounded out the Wildkats scoring with a 46.

May 13 NCC Tourney @ Pebble Brook 1:00 pm The Kokomo boys golf team fought wet and cold conditions for over five hours on Monday at Pebble Brook Golf Club and the end result for the Wildkats was a sixth place finish in the NCC Golf Tournament.

The high point Monday for the Wildkats was the play of freshman Brandon Hansen, who finished as the seventh-medalist with a score of 79. Hansen's finish earned him all-conference honors in his first year of competition at the annual tournament. Harrison's Nic Hoffman, a Purdue recruit, was the overall medalist with a one-under par score of 69.

Senior Connor Scheiman was next for the Wildkats with a score of 92. Senior Tyler Jansen shot 97 and freshman Ty Lauderbaugh completed the Kokomo scoring with a 99.

The sixth place finish marks an improvement for Kokomo as the Wildkats had finished in eighth place in the NCC Tournament the last two years.

May 15 Tipton (H) 4:00 pm (L) 148-162
As temperatures warmed up on Wednesday so did the Tipton golfers as the visiting Blue Devils defeated
Kokomo 148-162 in a varsity nine-hole match on the front nine at the Kokomo Country Club.

In a great battle at the No. 1 position between Wildkats' freshman Brandon Hansen and Tipton junior Griffin Hare, Hansen birdied his final hole and captured medalist honors with a one-under par score of 34, while Hare finished a shot back at 35. Hansen kept his streak alive of earning medalist honors in all of Kokomo's home dual matches this season.

The Wildkats score of 162 was a season best and a nice rebound after a tough day at the NCC Tournament on Monday.

Freshman Ty Lauderbaugh was second best for Kokomo on Wednesday with a 40 and senior Connor Scheiman was just a shot back at 41. Senior Clayton Brown provided the Wildkats' fourth score with a 47.

The Wildkats varsity dual match record now stands at 5-5.

May 18 Rock Invitational (T) 1:00 pm Peru High School and Rock Hollow Golf Club hosted 15 boys high school golf teams on Saturday at the annual Rock Hollow Invitational.

Although the field included teams from across the state, this invitational serves as an excellent opportunity for area teams in the Rock Hollow
Sectional to get in a round of golf in preparation for the state tournament.

Playing from the very back set of tees, the Kokomo boys golf team finished in 10th place on Saturday with a score of 362. Carmel's JV squad won the event with a score of 313. The top finishing team among those who will play in the Rock Hollow Sectional on June 3 were the host Peru Tigers, with a third place finish and a score of 328. Peru also had the overall medalist among the 15 teams as Kash Bellar recorded an impressive score of 4-under par 68.

Nine teams who will compete in the Rock Hollow Sectional on June 3 were on hand Saturday and Kokomo finished fifth among those teams. Only the top three teams in the sectional will advance as a team to the regional, so some work needs to be done by the Wildkats in the next two weeks.

Leading the Wildkats on Saturday was freshman Ty Lauderbaugh who shot 85. Next was freshman Brandon Hansen with and 87 and senior Connor
Scheiman added a 91. Kokomo's fourth score was posted by senior Tyler Janssen with a 99.

May 23 Peru (H) 4:00 pm (L) 159-165
The Kokomo Wildkats boys varsity golf team squared off with sectional favorite Peru on Monday afternoon at the Kokomo Country Club and the visiting Tigers came away with a 159-165 victory.

The Tigers' Kash Bellar, two days after firing a four-under par round at the Rock Hollow Invitational, was the medalist on the Country Club's front nine on Monday with a one-over par score of 36.

Leading the Wildkats on Monday was senior Connor Scheiman, who recorded a career best nine-hole match score of 38. Freshman Brandon Hansen was next for Kokomo with a 40, and freshman Ty Lauderbaugh added a 41. Senior Clayton Brown rounded out the scoring for Kokomo with a 46.

May 23 Maconaquah/Taylor (H) 4:00 pm Kokomo 169 - Maconaquah 170
Kokomo 169 - Taylor 220
Kokomo senior Tyler Janssen picked the appropriate time to shoot a season best score as the Wildkats earned a pair of wins Thursday afternoon against Taylor and Maconaquah on Senior Night at the Kokomo Country Club.

The Wildkats came in at 169 on Thursday, just a
single shot better than Maconaquah, who finished at
170, and Taylor, who posted a score of 220.

Janssen, who earned medalist honors with a three over par 38, was the last player off the course for Kokomo and the Wildkats trailed Maconaquah by
11 strokes before Janssen's score was added in and
the previous high score for Kokomo was thrown out. The end result was the Wildkats one shot victory.

Senior Connor Scheiman was next low for Kokomo
in the match on the Country Club's front nine with a
score of 42. Freshman Brandon Hansen added a 43,
and freshman Ty Lauderbaugh provided the Wildkats final countable score with a 46.

The two wins allowed Kokomo to finish the dual
match portion of the season with a record of 7-6.  This is one year after the Wildkats won just a single
dual match.

Before the match on Thursday, seven Kokomo golfers were honored on Senior Night. The group included Janssen, Scheiman, Clayton Brown, Caiden Kirby, Wylen Ford, Gionni Weatherspoon, and Michael McGraw.

The Wildkats return to action on Saturday at the
Triton Invitational at Swan Lake Golf Club in  Plymouth.
