Date Opponent Time Score
Apr. 9 McCutcheon (T) 4:30 pm (L) 3-2
Our doubles teams struggled early, although there were bright spots. With more time to work together, these girls will make huge strides.

Our first point came at #1 singles, where Abby Bowen defeated her opponent 7-6 (3), 6-3. Abby showed poise and confidence throughout her match.

Next off the courts was #2 singles Olivia Persons. Her staying power may not have led to her getting a win, but certainly helped her younger teammate. Persons lost 4-6, 7-6 (2), 2-6 but stayed on the courts a majority of the time her #3 singles freshman teammate Olivia Hemmerich was battling it out. The 2 1/2 hour match was a test for the young player but she prevailed for her first varsity win 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6).

This was a huge improvement as we lost to McCutcheon last year 5-0.

Apr. 11 Twin Lakes (H) 5:00 pm (L) 4-1

Apr. 16 Western (T) 4:00 pm (L) 5-0
The Lady Kats traveled to Western Tuesday afternoon. Short-handed due to a school trip, the netters fell 5-0.

Abby Bowen battled at #1 singles but came up short after fighting through an early second set injury 6-3, 6-4. Olivia Hemmerich and Canelle Duriez dropped straight sets at #2 and #3 singles.

Doubles teams of Chloe McClain/Tori Watkins and Jada Mims/Leah Schliesmann likewise fell in straight sets.

Apr. 17 Frankfort (H) 5:00 pm (L) 4-1
Abby Bowen played an excellent match at #1 singles to run her record to 3-1 on the season and score the
lone point for the Lady Kats.

Apr. 18 Logansport (H) 5:00 pm Make-up date May 2.
Apr. 22 Lebanon (T) 5:00 pm (L) 5-0
The Lady Kats visited the unfriendly confines of Flanary Courts in Lebanon Monday night, dropping the match 5-0 to the Tigers.

The bright spots include Abby Bowen going three sets at #1 singles and demonstrating poise when her opponent challenged her mentally. Abby took the loss 0-6, 6-2, 6-4, but I want her on my side every night.

Apr. 23 Harrison (T) 5:00 pm (L) 5-0
We knew the trip to Harrison would be a challenging one and we were right, losing 5-0.

Again, Abby Bowen would be the last player on the courts. Abby dropped the first set 3-6 before coming back to win the second set 7-6 (4). With the match already decided, the ladies played a 10-point super tiebreaker where Abby pushed her opponent to the edge scoring eight points to her opponent’s 10. Abby has grown so much as a player and we are so proud
of her hard work.

The other ladies were overmatched, but continue to learn and improve.

Apr. 25 Northwestern (H) 4:30 pm Weather cancellation; make-up TBD
Apr. 27 Lafayette Jeff (H) 10:00 am (L) 3-2
Our two wins came at #2 singles with Olivia Persons playing her best match of the year, winning 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, and at #3 singles with Olivia Hemmerich winning 2-6, 6-2, 6-1. Both girls played well to secure their wins.

The doubles teams both played well and continue to improve. Tori Watkins and Canelle Duriez won five games at #1 against some tough opponents.

May 1 Peru (T) 5:00 pm (L) 5-0
Abby Bowen was the bright spot for the varsity Kats, splitting sets with her opponent and losing in the super tiebreaker 10-8. Abby hit so many great shots throughout the match.

Miriam Gonzalez and Jada Mims picked up a win for the JV 8-5 at #1 doubles. Daphne Reecer dropped her match 8-6 at #1 singles JV. These ladies are battling and improving daily.

May 2 Logansport (H)  5:00 pm (L) 3-2
Due to the rain we played a varsity only match at the Howard County Indoor Tennis Center in Greentown and lost to Logansport 3-2.

Abby Bowen took care of business, winning 6-3, 6-1 at #1 singles. Our second point came at #3 singles where Olivia Hemmerich defeated her opponent 6-3, 6-3. Olivia Persons went three sets at #2 singles, but we just weren't able to find that third point for a win.

For many of these girls, especially the doubles teams, this was their first indoor match. I am pleased with the progress we have made! Saturday is the NCC tournament at Muncie.

F.W. Bishop Luers 5 - Kokomo 0
Bowen came away with a win at #1 singles against Valparaiso. The team lost 4-1 to Valpo and 5-0 to Fort Wayne Luers. It is quite an experience for our girls to play at this outstanding facility.

Saturday's matches capped a week of seven matches in six days and ended our regular season. The sectional draw is tonight at 7:00.

May 15-17 IHSAA Sectional @ Kokomo TBD Northwestern 5 - Taylor 0
Eastern 4 - Tipton 1
Northwestern 5 - Kokomo 0
The Lady Kats ended the season with a 5-0 loss to
a very athletic and talented Northwestern team.

The match started early due to incoming weather
and play was suspended when the storms rolled in
during the first set. The match was then moved to
Greentown to the Howard County Indoor Tennis
Center.

Bright spot for the night was Abby Bowen taking
NW's #1 singles player, Madison Layden, to a
third set. Abby dropped the first set 6-2 before
roaring back in the second set winning 6-3. Abby
lost the 3rd set 6-0, but not many players have
won a set off of Layden, so we are so proud of
her.

Across the board, we competed to the best of our
ability!
