Season Review:

The 2018-2019 season will forever be remembered as the “Start of the Rebuild” for the Lady Kats. The young Kats started the season with only one senior on the team, and she was a move-in from North Miami. Ultimately, the team would consist of one senior, five juniors, four sophomores, and nine freshmen. Coach White inherited a tough situation that required his coaching staff and everyone involved with the program to become very patient.

Game after game and week after week, adversity would force the young ladies to constantly adjust to change.

It started in Game 1 of the season. The Lady Kats would not only lose to a talented Taylor team, but also lose a junior post player for the season as well as a rising freshman for a few games with a concussion.

By Game 5 we would lose our backup point guard to a hand injury.

By Game 7 we would play our best game of the season against two-time defending NCC champs Lafayette Jefferson, but lost 69-56. Just when it appeared that we were starting to turn the corner, the adversity continued.

By Game 10 (McCutcheon) we would lose our starting point guard and All-State candidate to an injury which helped lead to her departure from the team. To make it worse, we would lose our freshman rising star wing player for the year to a leg injury. That would be enough right? No, tough times continued to mount.

By Game 11 (Zionsville) we would lose our second leading scorer combo guard, our best freshman, to a leg injury. At that point, we had lost six varsity kids to injury or departure. The motto became, "next player up!"

The rebuild was put on hold, but the girls who were thrust into the fire kept battling and improving.

Coaches always want to be playing their best at the end of the season, and this year, we did. In the sectional semi-final against the defending Class 4A state runners-up, Zionsville, the Lady Kats saw their season come to an end. To watch the young Lady Kats mature and grow from the beginning to the end, to watch them learn and adapt to change, was a joy.

I would like to thank our one senior, Adria Hartley, for all of the hard work that she put in, leading this young team through this trying, rebuilding season. I would also like to thank the fans, administration, and families for their support and patience.

As we finish this season in the midst of a serious rebuild, the program is heading in the right direction but changing the culture is never easy and takes time. It will require a lot of work on and off the court and in the weight room in the off-season.
