Coach Miller
Feb. 9 IHSAA Semi-state @ Ft.Wayne 8:30 am The Wildkats had a tough day at the Fort Wayne Semi-State. The competitors inside of us were disappointed with not advancing anyone to the state meet. On the positive side of things advancing four wrestlers to the semi-state and getting Harvey Barr to the ticket round was another step forward for the program.

Competing for the final time for the Wildkats were seniors Zane Hall and Austin Johnson. We will definitely miss our senior class of Zane, Austin, James Bufkin, Nate Nelson, Jabian Shaffer, and Dakota Stalter, but we appreciate all the hard work they’ve put in turning this program back around.

The future is bright for this crew and expectations are very high. Our wrestlers are already anticipating and preparing for next season. The Kats had seven freshmen and sophomores make the trip to Portage High School for Northern Qualifying Tournament for the Indiana Freshman and Sophomore State Wrestling Tournament. Five wrestlers punched their
tickets to Freshman/Sophomore State and will join Harvey Barr and Nathan Conner, who were automatic qualifiers based on their performance at semi-state. Placing at the qualifier were:
113 Ashton Roberts 5th
132 Taylor Duncan 4th
145 Kymani Howard 4th
170 Myles Lenoir 7th
220 Jakobe Sparger 2nd

Season Review:

The 2018-2019 wrestling season has come to its conclusion and I’d like to look back and celebrate some of our accomplishments. Before I do that, I would like to say thank you to Mrs. Blessing and Mr. Sale for having faith
in this coaching staff to lead the wrestling team. I would personally like to say thank you to coaches Jacob Bough, Anthony Hobbs, Christian Bratcher, Thad Tyra and Drew Durham for working with the team this season. I would also like to say a huge thank you to the parents, led by Kat Rocha-Acosta and Jen Tyra, who did an awesome job taking care of our athletes this season.

The hallmarks of this wrestling season were growth and improvement. As a team, we improved our dual meet record from 14-17 last season to 25-6 this season. Individually, we won 139 more matches this year than we did last season. The team improved its’ individual winning percentage by 18.87%. We also saw an increase of 1312 team points scored by the wrestlers over last season. The amazing thing is that this is essentially the same group of wrestlers we had last season. This vast improvement is a testament to all the hard work that these athletes and coaches put in over the course of the last year. The future is bright for this group of Kats. We will greatly miss the contributions of our senior leaders: Zane Hall, Austin Johnson, Jabian Shaffer, James Bufkin, Nate Nelson, and Dakota Stalter but have 13 wrestlers returning who saw varsity action this season. We are also looking forward to a very large and talented eighth grade class joining us next season.
