Season Review:

The 2017-2018 season will forever be remembered as a season filled with injuries and change.

In the season opener, the Lady Kats would have their ONLY game of the year with the entire varsity roster healthy. In that season opening victory, the Kats played great team defense in forcing 29 Taylor turnovers en route to a 57-35 win. The win came with a cost; an injury to a starter would be a sign of what was to come.

Game after game and week after week, the young ladies had to constantly adjust. It started late in the summer with an entire brand-new coaching staff, new terminology, and a new system. They battled and played hard for the next few weeks to make those adjustments. Just as things were starting to normalize, the injury bug came back with a vengeance. A variety of injuries would take out three more varsity players, including the starting point guard. During a hard-fought, short-handed battle at Peru, we lost another one for the season. At that point, we had lost five varsity kids to injury. The motto became, "next player up!"

Over the course of a trying season, the girls kept battling and improving. As the days passed a few players returned to action. Things were starting to turn when the girls came back from a late 4-point deficit to win against Sheridan. The Kats would win three out of five games and have leads late in most of the games, even if they lost. They were growing and learning, and never stopped battling.

Coaches always want to be playing their best a t the end of the season, an d this year, we did. In the sectional semi-final against two-time defending conference champion, Lafayette Jeff, the Lady Kats saw their season come to an end. To watch the girls grow from the beginning to the end, to watch them learn and adapt to change, was a joy.

I would like to thank our seniors - Brittany Barnard, Tevin Deckard, Savannah Emmons, and Madison Wood - for all of their hard work in leading this young team through the season of change. I would also like to thank the fans, administration, and families for their support and patience.

As we finish this season of change, the program is heading in the right direction but changing the culture is never easy. It will require a lot of work on and off the court, and in the weight room, in the off season.
