The VolleyKats welcomed the Lady Kings of Cass to KHS Thursday night and came away with the three-set sweep 25-22, 25-14, 25-13.

After a rotation change we started off slow but got the momentum going and controlled the net. Our service game was the strongest it's been all year with 12 aces. We will need to keep improving our serve receive and court coverage on defense, but our energy and effort was solid.

Sept. 8 Chesterton Tourney (T) 9:00 am We started the day with Portage and struggled in serve receive and had trouble sustaining any momentum. After playing poorly, we still forced a decisive third set and took the match to the wire before falling 25-21, 24-26, 15-13. We had little time to recover as we immediately played Marquette Catholic, who we handled in short order 25-16, 25-14. Our final pool play match was against Hobart, and the Kats overcame a poor start to finish in a strong fashion, 22-25, 25-12, 15-8. We then took on host Chesterton for third place. You probably won't see a closer match as we prevailed in three sets 26-28, 27-25, 17-15. The girls bounced back after not being able to finish the first set and give away the final two points. It's was our most resilient and gutsy performance of the season.

Adria Hartley played well and earned All-tournament honors. Hartley blasted 43 kills on .340 hitting, served nine aces, dug 32 balls, and had eight blocks on the day. Fellow seniors Alliyah Hochstedler and Gabby Cooper both had big days as well with Hochstedler downing 22 kills and digging a team high 49 digs, while Cooper had 21 kills, four aces, 13 digs, and nine blocks. Our final two seniors also came through with Molly Fisher saving 32 rallies and Ellie Trine digging 23 balls. Both Fisher and Trine served five aces a piece. Junior Asijah Miller tallied nine kills and seven blocks from the Middle position. Sophomores Malori Nichols and Jannessa Reece manned the Right Side with Nichols getting two kills and two blocks, and Reece digging up two balls. Sophomore Sarah Stonebreaker dug five balls on the day and freshman Jada-Claire Broomfield added four digs. Sophomore setter Correll Heath dished 90 assists, had two kills, five blocks, and 14 digs during the four matches.
