highly contested match. What impressed the
coaching staff the most tonight was the fight that
was displayed by every Kat that took the mat. To a

Super Six Tournament @ Western |

It was a good day on the mats; your Wildkats went 3-2 at the Western Super 6. We lost a hard fought 42-30 match against a tough Western team. The Kats moved on and defeated conference rival Logansport 53-19. Next, the Kats dropped a match against Harrison 52-9. Finally, we finished the day in style defeating Hamilton Heights 58-15 and Clinton Central 63-15.
The improvement we have seen out of this group of wrestlers over the last year is incredible. The
wrestlers are doing everything the coaching staff has asked of them and its showing on the mat.

Harvey Barr – Sophomore 106 pound wrestler, Harvey Barr, went 6-0 this week and earned his
first 5-0 day Saturday at the Western Super 6.
Zane Hall – Senior 145 pound wrestler, Zane Hall, went 6-0 this week and earned his first 5-0
day Saturday at the Western Super 6. Zane now has a 10-1 season record.
Teachers of Week
Mr. Bunn – KHS English teacher – Zane choose Mr. Bunn as his teacher of the week. Zane really appreciates relationships Mr. Bunn strives to develop with his students.
Mr. Byam – KACC PLTW teacher – Harvey chose Mr. Byam as his teacher of the week. Harvey says that Mr. Byam motivates him to do his best even when he (Harvey)doesn’t necessarily feel like it.

The Wildkats had a good day on the mats at Frankfort. Kokomo ended up 4-1 for the day.
The Kats earned hard fought victories against Frankfort (39-32), Lebanon (43-31), Shelbyville (53-27), and Cascade (57-18). Our lone defeat was to a very good HSE team (15-55).
Our season record is now 9-3.
We had nine individuals leave Frankfort with winning records. Our individual highlight was Jeremiah Neal going 5-0 and avenging an early season defeat to Crae Kunkleman, a state ranked wrestler from HSE.

The Kats showed a lot of resiliency tonight by defeating a tough Northwestern team by a score of 41-32. The dual started at 152 pounds and the Kats found themselves down 6-29 after the 220-pound weight class. In true Wildkat fashion, these Kats didn’t give up but instead kept fighting and found a way. The Kats received a forfeit at 285, which got the ball rolling and finished by winning seven of the final eight matches. The win against Northwestern brought our season dual record to 11-3.

Wrestler of the Week – Wilmer Corrales. Wilmer returned from injury to help the team by moving up a weight class and winning a major decision to help propel the Kats to victory over the Northwestern Tigers.
Teacher of the Week – Mrs. Conwell, KHS Math Teacher. Wilmer selected Mrs. Conwell because “she helps me understand geometry better and she stays after school to help me prepare for quizzes and tests.”
Wrestler of the Week (last week) Trey Marciniak – Freshman wrestler Trey Marciniak was inserted in to the lineup last week to fill in for sick teammate and helped the Kats defeat Logansport by pinning his opponent.
Teacher of the Week (last week) Mrs. Mundy – Trey selected Mrs. Mundy as his teacher of the week because “she is a very good teacher in the ways of respecting all her students. She strives for her students to be successful and never lets anyone give up on themselves.”

The Wildkat grapplers had a very good two days at the Lafayette Jeff Holiday Duals going 9-1. Day one we went 5-0 defeating Clinton Central, Lafayette Central Catholic, Lafayette Jeff, Rensselaer Central, and Delphi. Day two saw the Kats defeat Cascade, West Lafayette, and New Castle before dropping a close match to tournament champs New Prairie. The Kats rebounded by defeating Rossville. The Kats have now run their season record to 20-4.

Teacher of the Week - KHS Biology teacher - Mrs. Reynolds. Ethan selected Mrs. Reynolds because, “When I was a freshman struggling with school, she
helped me get on track. Her help still continues to make me a better student-athlete.”
