Senior Alayna Kline is named Howard County Distinguished Young Woman.

KHS senior Alayna Kline recently took the stage at Indiana University Kokomo’s Havens Auditorium to compete in the Howard County Distinguished Young Women scholarship program. After competing in categories like interview, fitness, talent, and self-expression, Kline won the title of Howard County’s Distinguished Young Woman.

“It was a surreal feeling,” Kline said. “I had worked so hard for a few months, and I was surrounded by so many girls that I love.”

In route to winning the title, Kline won the overall interview, overall self-expression, overall fitness and a preliminary award for talent. She played the violin for the talent portion.

Now that Kline has earned the title of DYW of Howard County, she will move on to the state program. This takes place in February, and includes young women from Indiana’s different counties.

Following graduation, Kline plans on attending IUK to receive her undergraduate degree in psychology. She plans to continue her education elsewhere to earn her masters and doctorate in clinical psychology.

Kline encourages any KHS girl who is interested in the DYW program to consider applying next year.

“It is such a fun experience and on top of that you learn so much. A big part of the program is the interview section,” she said. “I learned so many interview skills that I can utilize for the rest of my life, especially in career fields.”
