Senior Korbyn Hammel drives to the basket during the Kats senior night contest.

Early in February, senior basketball player Korbyn Hammel reached a milestone that not many high school athletes reach: Hammel scored his 1,000th career point as a Kokomo Wildkat.

"Reaching 1,000 points means a lot to me,” Hammel said. “Not a lot of people get the opportunity to accomplish something like this, so I’m really grateful and blessed to be able to reach that milestone.”

Hammel is the 16th Wildkat to accomplish this. In the game last Saturday, Hammel scored a career-high 34 points, the 31st 34-point or high game in Kats’ basketball history. He also became the 8th leading scorer in school history with 1,136 points.

“My team was very important in making this moment special. Everyone was genuinely happy for me and supported me, which meant a lot. It made the experience even better,” he said.
