Last week, the KHS Bring Change 2 Mind group hosted the second annual Black History Expo. With presentations and displays highlighting Black History, the event was a hit for both the high school and Kokomo community.
Bring Change 2 Mind hoped to find a way to tie KHS to the local community.
“Both our school and community have been largely impacted by Black History, “ said club sponsor Nicky Parry. “So when we decided to bring this event to life, we knew the importance of balancing the acknowledgement of the work and sacrifices of so many who came before us with celebrating Black History in the making.”
Through displays about famous filmmakers to original poems read by KHS students, the Black History Expo offered something for everyone.
“This was an opportunity for attendees to gain some value in recognizing and celebrating the culture we have in Kokomo and at KHS,” Parry said. “Our society would not be what it is and we would not have so many things if it were not for Black Americans across the years. Black History is American history.”
