Kokomo High School boys tennis has had a busy season so far, with the team spending a lot of time practicing, competing and building chemistry together. The varsity lineup has four seniors and three juniors, which has helped create a close group. Coach Travis Taflinger said the team’s goal this season is to “play with joy” and enjoy the season while they have it. 

The Kats recently secured their fourth straight North Central Conference championship, defeating both Muncie Central and Anderson to win KHS’s historic 20th boys’ tennis NCC title, the most conference championships of any school.  

“These seniors are four-time champs. They should be very proud of the legacy they continued to build on with Kokomo tennis,” Taflinger said.

Another big moment this season was senior night against Lafayette Jefferson on Sept. 15. Kokomo came away with a 5–0 win, with wins in all three singles matches and both doubles matches.  The team also hosted the Kokomo Boys Tennis Invite on Sept. 12, where Kokomo defeated West Lafayette 3–2. 

As the regular season gets closer to ending, the team is continuing to compete and prepare for the postseason. Kokomo heads into the IHSAA sectional tournament at KHS beginning Sept. 29. 

Overall, the season has been about more than just winning matches. The players have been working hard, supporting each other, and making the most of their time playing together. With sectionals coming up, the team is looking forward to finishing the season strong and seeing how far they can go.
